Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, whose 1000th film as composer in the form of Bala’s Sasikumar-Varalaxmi starrer Tharai Thappattai hits the screens today, would be scoring the music of a Kamal Haasan starrer after 11 long years.
The film has been titled as Appa Amma Vilaiyaattu and brings together the father-daughter combination of Kamal Haasan and Shruti Haasan first time on-screen.
Ever since Kamal launched his production house ‘Raajkamal International Films’ in 1981, Ilaiyaraaja had been scoring films produced under this banner till 2005.
In between, Karthik Raja, Maestro’s eldest son, scored the music of Kadhala Kahdala. After the 2005 release Mumbai Express, Kamal had worked with many music directors before returning to Maestro once again.
In fact, Kamal Haasan and Ilaiyaraaja would be working together in not one but two films this year. The first of these two films will be directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar, who directed Kamal in Chanakyan in 1989. The film, to be made in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously, pits Kamal Haasan opposite Amala, his co-star in successful films such as Sathya and Vetri Vizha.
The second film to be made under Rajeev Kumar-Kamal Haasan would have Shruti essaying Kamal’s daughter. Ilaiyaraaja would be scoring the music of both these films; an official announcement about the launch of these films is expected to be out soon.
