After the super-success of Pizza (2012), the hit pair of Vijay Sethupathi and Remya Nambeesan join hands together for the second time in an upcoming titled Sethupathi. As can be inferred easily, the title of the film is a clear indicator of Vijay Sethupathi’s growing stature in the industry as an actor.
In fact, Pizza kick-started many things for Vijay Sethupathi who hasn’t looked back from the film’s success: he tried a variety of roles, non-typical of a hero, played a gangster, an old man and even turned producer, all the time ensuring that he remains a frontline hero. Last year, he had a super-duper hit in Naanum Rowdydhaan opposite Nayantara, his most favourite actress in Kollywood.
Vijay Sethupathi plays a cop for the first time in his career in Sethupathi directed by S.U. Arunkumar. Nivas K Prasanna scores the film’s music. Set in the backdrop of Madurai, Vijay Sethupathi essays a cop who faces problems aplenty within his house as well as in his Department. The film has turned out to be a riveting action-packed venture, it is reported.
“I play a cop for the first time as I had been waiting for an impressionable cop’s role for many years. When Arunkumar narrtaed the script during making of Pannaiyaarun Padminiyum, I had asked him to wait.
It’s a very practical script where Remya plays my wife. I hesitated at first to take up the film as its title resembled my name but finally agreed to star in the film because of its powerful script.
“I don’t have any set rules for taking up a film and would take up action-packed films in future if the script(s) appealed to me,” he said. It may be recalled that Sethupathi IPS was the name of an action-packed Vijayakanth-starrer in the nineties. Crew of Sethupathi had taken permission from AVM Productions, which made the Vijayakanth-starrer, to use part of their film’s title.
