Director Bala’s upcoming film Tharai Thappattai has been awarded an ‘A’ certificate by the Regional Censor Board in Chennai.
Tharai Thappattai, as already reported, is the landmark 1000th film in the glittering career of Maestro Ilaiyaraaja who was magnanimous in asking the producers not to hold a felicitation function in his honour in view of the recent floods which caused great distress to people in Chennai and other coastal Districts in the State.
Starring Sasikumar and Varalaxmi in the lead, the film chronicles the lives of folk artistes who perform Karagaattam to earn their living. Soon after the film’s shoot was wrapped up, it was sent to the Censors recently.
Censor Board officials objected to some dialogues and violent-ridden stunt sequences in the film and said that they would award an ‘U/A’ certificate if some sequences were deleted/dialogues muted.
However, Bala refused to do so and as a result, the film is now scheduled to release in theatres on Pongal (15th January) with an ‘A’ certificate. Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s fans and music lovers have been looking forward to the film’s release with huge interest as it’s a Guinness record-breaking 1000th film by the inimitable Ilaiyaraaja.
