Thirukkumaran, director of producer-distributor turned hero Udhayanidhi’s upcoming film Gethu, has said that the script of the film was simple yet popular. “It dealt with the kind of emotional bonding that prevails between a father and his son,” he said.
Slated to release on Pongal, Gethu is also Udhayanidhi’s first-ever ‘action avatar’ after he starred in a series of soft, romantic comedies in Oru Kal Oru kannadi, Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal and Nanbendaa. Incidentally enough, comedian Santhanam, who was an integral part in all these films, has been replaced by upcoming comedian Karunakaran in Getu which has the sizzling Amy Jackson as the heroine.
Sathyaraj, Vikranth and Karunakaran have essayed prominent roles in the film which releases on Pongal by taking on Sivakarthikeyan’s Rajini Murugan, Vishal’s Kathakali and Bala’s Tharai Thappattai. Udhayanidhi’s decision to release the film on Pongal was further boosted by Sundar C’s decision to postpone the release of horror film Aranmanai 2 by a few weeks.
“The film’s script deals deeply with the kind of emotional bonding which binds a father and his son. Udhayanidhi and Sathyaraj have essayed their roles admirably well. I have infused action sequences adequately into this emotion-filled script,” informs Thirukkumaran, who debuted as director with the Sivakarthikeyan-Hansika starrer Maan Karate.
