Trade reports say that Ajith Kumar’s Vedalam, released last Tuesday across the State and elsewhere on Deepavali and which enters its second week in theatres today, has collected a whopping Rs.60 crores all over the globe in its first six days.
Starring Ajith Kumar, Shruti Haasan, Lakshmi Menon, Soori, Thambi Ramaiah, Ashwin Kakumanu and Appukutty in lead roles and with ro(llic)king music by Anirudh Ravichander, Vedalam has been declared a super-hit within three days of its release.
Siva, who has directed his second Ajith-starrer after Veeram, is said to be mighty happy at the box-office returns and the critical acclaim the film receives.
On its first day in theatres, Vedalam collected Rs.15.5 crores, a new record for a Tamil film, beating superstar Rajinikanth’s Lingaa and Vijay’s Kaththi by a good margin.
The incessant rains appeared to have little impact on Ajith’s die-hard fans who continue(d) to throng theatres screening the film as the film, which netted Rs.20 crore during pre-release bookings, has collected Rs.60 crores in its first six days.
Tamil Nadu collections alone stand at Rs.50 crores. Critics have lauded Ajith’s performance in the film as the star has been the one-man army carrying the film on his shoulders.
With Vedalam, Ajith has yet again proved that he is a ‘mass hero’ who commands great fan-following. With rain cooperating, the film is likely to cross the Rs.100-crore mark as box-office collections in the next couple of weeks.
