Producer A.M. Ratnam has announced that after Shankar wraps up the shoot of his upcoming film Enthiran 2 which would star superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, work in sequel to the 1996 super-hit film Indian would commence.
Rathnam is credited for giving a new lease of life to actors such as Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Vijay and Vikram by producing their super-hit films at a time when these actors had faced crises in their respective careers. Rathnam, who had remained away from the film industry for many years, has of late become active and has started producing films again, much to the delight of the many directors who have worked with him.
It turns out that Rathnam recently met Shankar and held discussions with him on the possibility of making a sequel to the 1996 film Indian which starred Kamal Haasan, Sukanya and Manisha Koirala in lead roles. It is reported that Shankar had assured Rathnam that he would make a sequel to Indian after he wrapped up the shoot of Enthrian 2 by end-2016.
Kamal Haasan had essayed dual roles of a father and son in Indian where the father was the protagonist, taking on the corrupt society by killing corrupt officials and instilling fear in the minds of others. A formal announcement about the sequel to Indian might be made in the coming weeks.
