Balachander who passed away a few months back, is all set to remake his own classic musical hit Keladi Kanmani which starred legendary playback singer and occasional actor S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and Radhika Sarathkumar in lead roles.
Released in 1990, Kelaldi Kanmani was an instant, runaway hit. Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s memorable, mesmerizing numbers added to the film’s many pluses. The screenplay, dialogues and SPB and Radhika’s matured performances resulted in the film becoming a super-duper hit as it ran for more than 200 days at the box-office.
In a recent interview, Vasanth had said “Now is the time for remaking old classics. In fact, I want to remake my own Keladi Kanmani by casting today’s youngsters.
I would also have to make subtle changes in the screenplay to suit today’s tastes of the audiences. The film would be made in a very different dimension and would appeal to all sections of the audiences!”
Vasanth, who is presently directing Sivaranjaniyum Sila Pengalum, is likely to start work on remake of Keladi Kanmani in the next few months.
