Few can beat Vijay Sethupathi when it comes to speaking openly and straight from the heart. The actor-producer has admitted during the recently-held audio launch of his upcoming film Mellisai that he forced his director Ranjit Jayakodi to re-shoot the climax of the film as he wasn’t utterly satisfied with his performance. In the same breath, though, he also thanked Jayakodi for agreeing to his request.
Produced Deepan Boopathy and Ratesh Velu on behalf of their production house ‘Rebel Studios’, Mellisai has Ranjit Jayakodi penning the story, screenplay and dialogues besides directing it.
Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie, who had earlier paired up in films such as Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Rummy, play the lead roles in the film in their third film together. Dinesh Krishnan is the film’s cinematographer.
Speaking at the event, Sethupathi said “Relationship between a man and a woman is of foremost importance to all humans. Everyone falls in love at some stage in their lives.
If there is no love/romance, the earth would stop rotating on its axis. Mellisai brings out the depth of love and affection which prevails between a man and a woman. I have emoted a lot in romantic sequences.
“When I reviewed the film, I wasn’t fully convinced with my performance or emoting in the climatic sequence. I told Ranjit that I felt that my performance was ordinary and that I wanted to improve on it. I convinced him finally to re-shoot the sequence as I felt that like a sincere script-writer, I should also be honest in my performance.
“I was a bit unhappy with the producers for the delay in the film’s making but it’s now a thing of the past. My disappointment was borne only out of the fact that I believed that it’s a very good film and wanted it to be out in theatres as soon as possible,” he concluded.
Directors Karthik Subbaraj, Ram, Balaji Dharaneetharan and Thamira and Tamizachi Thangapandian, Ma.Ka.Pa. Anand and others took part in the event.
