In its second week at the box-office, the Nayantara-starrer thriller film Maya continues to rule the box-office. Though it lagged behind the G.V. Prakash Kumar-Anandhi-Manisha Yadav starrer Trisha Illana Nayantara it its initial days, Maya has overtaken the film when it comes to theatrical collections as it has now taken the lead.
Released on Ganesh Chaturthi Day two weeks back, Maya got good reviews from critics in the print and television media but still had to do well at the box-office to justify its pre-release billing.
Nayantara’s star-value has come to the fore with the film which doesn’t have any other notable star in it. The great run that Nayantara has been enjoying in Kollywood for the past few years appears to continue without any hindrance.
Maya has so far collected Rs.2.09 crores in Chennai alone, followed by Trisha Illana Nayantara which has collected Rs.1.91 crores. Released more than a month back, ‘Jayam’ Ravi’s Thani Oruvan (Nayantara again!) is still going great guns, collecting Rs.23.90 lakhs in last week alone and having collected a sum of Rs.6.11 crores so far it its first five weeks in Chennai!
Kuttram Kadithal, with its pre-release reviews helping its cause, has been doing well. Released last Thursday on Bakrid, the film has so far collected Rs.9.84 lakhs through 60 shows in the city. Kirumi, which was expected to do well, has done badly so far as it has collected only Rs.4.14 lakhs out of 36 shows.
