Following on the footsteps of actresses such as Shruti Haasan, Andrea Jeremiah, Remya Nambeesan and Lakshmi Menon, yet another actress – young and aspiring to move up the ladder of stardom – has expressed her willingness to become a playback singer.
Stylish-looking Regina Cassandra, who was last spotted in Tamil films in a lead role in Rajathanthiram and who paired up opposite Sivakarthikeyan in the hit film Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, is the latest actresses with dreams of making it big as a playback singer in K-Town. It may be noted that Mia George of Amara Kaaviyam had also expressed her with to turn a playback singer.
“I used to sing well during the prayer session at my church. Nobody has commented adversely about the way I sing. Though I haven’t learnt music or singing properly under a tutor, I’m confident that I can sing well if I’m trained or instructed to sing in a particular manner. If any music director trusts my instincts and offers me a chance to sing in films, I would be more than ready to become a playback singer.
“I have never dubbed for my role in Tamil films till now. I realize that an actress has to speak the language on-screen to look convincing. I was too busy with my Telugu film commitments to dub for my roles in Tamil films. However, in future, I’d ensure that the characters I essay in my films in Kollywood would have my voice and not that of others,” assures Regina.
