Yesterday (18th August) marked a significant day in superstar Rajinikanth’s life; it was the 40th anniversary of the entry of the ‘man of the masses’ into the world of films. It was on this day in 1975 that Rajini first faced the camera. The rest, as they say, was truly history!
To his credit, Rajini has been the undisputed ‘Emperor of Kollywood’ for close to four decades now. After starting off with character and villain roles, Rajini turned hero in the late seventies and hasn’t looked back. Rajini’s fans, coming under the aegis of Rajiniyin Murattu Bhakthargal (‘Tough Devotees of Rajinikanth’), celebrated the day with a grand function in Chidambaram.
The G.M. Marriage Hall in Chidamaram was the venue of the function which commenced at 04:00 p.m. yesterday. The fans also distributed assistance under welfare schemes to many poor and needy people but didn’t do so on-stage.
“Thalaivar is always very conscious of helping others without any publicity; we followed him, provided assistance on educational and industrial fronts but did so in private and not publicly,” they said.
A seminar on Rajini was also held on the occasion in which lecturers and professors of various colleges in the State spoke on Rajini’s greatness and what made him the star that he is today.
This is for the first time in the history of Kollywood that a seminar on the hero’s rise/ascent was held at the fans’ club meeting of the particular star. Rajini’s close friend Raj Bahadur had made it to the event by traveling from Bangalore.
