It is reported from Mumbai that national award-winning actress Vidya Balan is likely to play the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, India’s ‘Iron Woman’, in a new Bollywood film which is likely to go to the floors in a few months’ time.
In an industry ruled by the many Khans and Kapoors, Palakkad-born Vidya Balan has managed to make it big in Bollywood after getting rejected by Kollywood.
Not many are aware that Vidya was roped in to play Srikanth’s heroine in Manasellam before Trisha bagged the role ultimately. Unnerved, Vidya moved to Bollywood and proved her mettle thereby making Kollywood suffer.
Vidya has dabbled in varied roles in films such as The Dirrty Picture and Kahaani. Despite her marriage to UTVs Siddharth Roy Kapoor, she continues to be busy with her Hindi film assignments and is said to have been offered somewhere between Rs.15-20 crores to play Indira Gandhi, the only political leader in the globe to have created an independent country in the form of Bangladesh, in a new untitled Bollywood film.
Her passion for wearing sarees might come in handy while essaying Mrs. Gandhi’s role, it is pointed by observers as Mrs. Gandhi, besides her great political career, also made a fashion statement by donning sarees in the most elegant manner. Details of who would direct and produce the proposed film would be revealed later, it is said.
