Pugaippadam, produced by N.C. Manikandan, directed by Rajeshlingam under the banner of Mayabazaar Films, is a true story based on the college days of eight students. It is not about the romance and love that exists amongst youth. This film is about camaraderie and much more.
The most interesting fact is that the real life people on whom the film is made, do not know about this transformation of their college life into a film. They will be pleasantly surprised when they watch this film and learn that is about them. Director Rajeshlingam is very confident that this film will bring all these friends back together. And this indeed is a novel idea of bringing a few friends together by the medium of a film.
The film marks the debut of eight newcomers. They are: Amjad, a marketing executive of Radio One F.M.; Shivan, a hip-hop artist; Harish, who had been an editor to directors K. Balachander and Visu; Nanda, a dance master in John Britto’s dance school who trained actors like Suriya and S.J. Suryah; Mrinalini, an assistant to director Rajeshlingam and a native of Kolkata; Priya, an NRI from USA, an aspiring actor who got a break in this film; Yamini, who is from Andhra Pradesh; and Venkat, of TV reality show ‘Jodi No. 1’ fame.
Above all, the film marks the comeback of Gangai Amaran, who has proved that he is still young at heart by giving an excellent musical score for this youthful film. The lyrics have been penned by Na. Muthukumar. Yasin of ‘Yammadi Aathadi’ fame has choreographed the dance sequences. Lenin is the editor.
Overall, it looks like this youthful film is all set bring about nostalgic and déjà vu feelings in you. It also looks like it will join the list of victorious films like Kalloori, Chennai 600028, Autograph, and the likes which targeted young audiences.
