Even though the film received favorable reviews from critics, Masss has turned out to be a biggest disaster in Suriya’s career as far as Tamil Nadu box office numbers are concerned.
The film, which was not granted tax exemption, has grossed only Rs 29 crores overall with a share of Rs 17 crores. Though the film’s pre-release business amounted to Rs. 35 crores, it bombed at the box office and stumbled to hold during the second week itself.
Trade sources estimate around 50% overall loss from the film. Interestingly, Suriya’s Anjaan fared better than Masss in Tamil Nadu with a net of around Rs. 30 crores from its life-time run.
