Not many are aware that ace comedian Santhanam, who only concentrated in Tamil films all these years, has indeed starred in a Bollywood film titled as Chinnu Mannu which was launched almost a decade back, much before Santhanam started making waves in Kollywood with Simbu’s Manmadhan in 2004.
Shot entirely in Bangkok, the producer of the film passed away unfortunately when only 80% of the film’s shoot had been wrapped up. As the producer passed away, neither the director nor any other financier/distributor volunteered to finance the film, take it forward to complete the film’s shoot and release it.
Santhanam had essayed the lead comedian’s role in the film and had appeared in 10 different get-ups (including the ‘Appu’ Kamal Haasan’s get up in Apoorva Sagodharargal). Santhanam’s role was that of a thief who was expert in disguises and stealing things without anyone getting to know about his identity.
Till date, this happens to be the only film Santhanam did in Hindi. During the past decade or so, he was reportedly offered many chances to star in Hindi films but turned them down. Unconfirmed reports say that Santhanam, who has starred in a film each in Malayalam and Telugu, is trying to revive the abandoned Chinnu Munnu.
