Raghava Lawrence must be on seventh heaven as his Kanchana 2 has broken many records at the box office and is declared unanimously by distributors and theater owners as the first blockbuster film of 2015.
The film (both Tamil and Telugu versions) has grossed Rs. 113 crores worldwide with a net of around Rs. 82 crores and distributors’ share of Rs. 60.75 crores.
It is the only south Indian film to be made at a shoestring budget of just Rs. 17 crores and gross more than Rs. 100 crores worldwide, thereby resulting in more than four times ROI (return on investment).
Another interesting trivia is that only four heroes – Rajinikanth, Vijay, Suriya and Vikram – in Tamil have collected more than Rs. 60 crores as distributors’ share in their career. Lawrence has joined this elite club that is still elusive for Ajith Kumar.
