Kollywood was abuzz yesterday with rumours floating in the air stating that superstar Rajinikanth’s next film would be Enthiran 2, the sequel to his super-successful Enthiran, and that it would be produced by Lyca Mobiles owned by Subashkaran, a close business associate of former Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Enthiran, which released in 2010, had Rajini essaying dual roles of a scientist and a ‘Robot’. Sun Pictures had pumped in crores of money to make the film which was directed by Shankar. As expected, Enthiran broke all box-office records in India and abroad. As on date, the theatrical collections of Enthiran have not been beaten by any Tamil film.
Kollywood has been reporting for the past few weeks that Rajini’s next film would be a sequel to Enthiran and would be appropriately titled as Enthiran 2.
It is reported that Rajini, who was hesitant in taking up the sequel film which would require him to undergo great physical activities for the shoot, has now decided to go ahead with the project and given his nod to Shankar to star in the film.
It is further reported that Rajini would be playing dual roles in the sequel like he did in Enthiran. However, it is said that Lyca Mobiles, which produced Vijay’s A.R.Murugadoss directed Kaththi, which faced controversies prior to its release last year because of Subashkaran’s friendship with Rajapaksa, would be producing the Enthiran sequel.
It may be noted that Lyca went to Court after the controversy surfaced and won the Court’s approval in its favour to continue to make Tamil films.
