Actress Jayasudha, who is contesting for the post of president of the Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA) (equivalent to Nadigar Sangam in Kollywood), has said that she has received death threats warning her to withdraw her candidature. Popular comedian-cum-character actor Rajendra Prasad is Jayasudha’s chief competitor.
The polls are scheduled to take place on Sunday (29th March). Muralimohan, who had been the president of MAA, got elected as a Telugu Desam party MP and has since opted out of the poll fray but has expressed his support to Jayasudha. Megastar Chiranjeevi and his family have expressed their support to Rajendra Prasad.
“I have been in the film industry for the past 43 years; though Rajendra Prasad might be elder to me, I’m ‘senior’ to them in terms of my experience in the film industry. I have been a member of MAA ever since it was launched and had also been its vice-president in the past.
“I have been receiving threats over phone to withdraw my candidature. I’m not going to get cowed down by these threats and would fight the elections. In fact, the threats have only made me more determined. If elected, I shall make efforts to secure Government’s grants for actors/actresses going through a spell of poverty. I’m sure of my victory in the polls,” Jayasudha said confidently.
