Karthik Subbaraj has made only two films in the past few years: they are Pizza and Jigarthanda. Scripts of both these films were of entirely different backdrops and about different sets of people. Within no time, the burly director has earned a name for himself in Tamil films as a film-maker who dares to make films of substance.
In yet another novel attempt, Karthik has launched ‘Stone Bench Creations’ in order to lend a helping hand to his close friends, who are also budding film-makers. Through this firm, a collection of six short films titled ‘Bench Talkies: The First Bench’ is to release to day in theatres in what is seen as a novel attempt by him.
The six short films referred to above have been directed by Anil Krishnan, Sarukesh Sekar, Gopakumar, Monesh, R.M. Rathnakumar and Karthik Subbaraj himself. All the six short films have been combined as a single film and have been certified so by the Regional Censor Board.
The film releases today (06th March) in multiplexes in Coimbatore and in Bangalore on 13th Friday. ‘Bench Talkies’ thus makes an earnest effort to bring about a positive change in the film-making process and it is believed that this film would give the much-needed appreciation for short-film makers!
