Despite mixed reviews and box-office reports about Sivakarthikeyan’s latest release Kaaki Sattai, his upcoming film Rajini Murugan has been sold for a whopping Rs.40 crore, stumping filmy pundits and trade experts.
Sivakarthikeyan, whose Rajini Murugan is directed by Ponram who gave him the super-duper hit film Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam in 2013, has been promoting Kaakki Sattai in all possible ways. Trade circles say that the film, which released in theatres last Friday, collected more than Rs.15 crores in its first three days.
Lingusamy’s Thirupathi Brothers is the producer of Rajini Murugan. Sivakarthikeyan, who was initially reluctant to take on the role, agreed to do it once he heard the complete script which is said to possess necessary ingredients for it to click at the box-office. Now that the film’s shoot has been wrapped, the post-production work is going on and it is expected that the film would release in theatres in May.
It is said that Rajini Murugan has become the highest-grossing Sivakarthikeyan film in terms of getting sold to the distributors and exhibitors. Trade circles point out that this is indeed a huge amount for a film starring Sivakarthikeyan, who is only in his early days as a budding hero.
For the record, Rajini Murugan has debutant Keerthi Suresh pairing up opposite him. Soori, Samuthirakani and Rajkiran play significant roles in the film which has music by D. Imman.
