For some reasons, stardom in Tamil films has proved elusive for Charmy Kaur, the Punjabi Kudi who is among the frontline heroines in Tollywood. Charmy debuted as a rank teenager in Tamil films more than a decade back in 2002 in Kadhal Azhivathillai which was also the launch-pad of Simbu, who has gone on to become a top star in Tamil.
After her debut film, Charmy has only starred in a handful of films in Tamil till now in a period of more than 12 years. She has starred in all the South Indian languages and has done films in Kannada and Malayalam and in Hindi. Bollywood has always seen her as an ‘item number’ and she didn’t prove them wrong by dancing for some sizzling numbers.
Her personal life underwent some turbulence with reports of her affair first with Puri Jagannath and then with music director Devi Sri Prasad. However, she was out of both the affairs in no time and in an effort to vent her anger, she addressed a ‘love letter’ to self on Valentine’s Day last month and even recorded it on her Twitter account.
Unlike her contemporaries, Charmy doesn’t think twice about ‘item numbeer’ songs. Her latest film in Tamil in Vikram-Samantha starrer 10 Enradhukulla has her again gyrating her hips to a sizzling ‘item song’. Despite being in demand for such songs, Charmy still regrets the fact that she hasn’t been able to make an impression in Kollywood.
