The tale of films of leading and frontline heroes facing problems in releasing theatres in the face of opposition expressed from various quarters continues unabated: the latest film to be affected is Karthi’s Komban.
Directed by Muthaiah, Komban stars Karthi, Lakshmi Menon, Rajkiran and Kovai Sarala in lead roles. After a long gap, Karthi takes up a rural youth’s role, similar to the one he did in his debut film Paruthiveeran.
K.C. Selvakumar, President of the Madurai District Devendra Kula Vellarar Uravinmurai Sangam, has submitted a petition to the Regional Censor Board in Chennai stating that “Tense situation prevails among two communities in Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram District.
In this backdrop, we came to know that a film Komban is under production having the communal disturbance in Mudukulathur as its backdrop. The hero is said to have been depicted as representing the dominant community.
“As the script reportedly supports one particular community, fears and apprehensions have been raised that when it releases, the film might create an extra-ordinary situation in these localities.
“Already, Nadar community has also petitioned the Censor Board against the film’s release. If the film releases in its present version, communal clash is bound to erupt in a big way in Southern Districts of the State. Therefore, I request you to ban the release of the film in theatres,” the petition concluded.
