Spending a great life as a software engineer in United States, here comes Mr. S M Raju who commences his directorial journey with a great theme in Kollywood. Software development perhaps would have been his job for butter and jam, but his passion for filmmaking was inevitable. Setting out from US, he joined veteran director Santhosh Sivan and worked as assistant for Malayalam blockbuster movie ‘Anandha Bathram’. Apart from that, his short films have won laurels across the far-flung corners of the world.
His debut flick in Kollywood is ‘Varnam’ a film not just about colors, but different shades of human life. Whatever may be the childhood day dreams, but everything gets faded away once the days pass by. This is something to do with reality and Raju says that he would strive blending reality to the screens. The film also would focus on how caste system affects each one’s life in different forms.
Most part of the film has been shot across in and around hill areas of Kodaikanal. Debutants Giri and Ashwata perform the lead role along with Azhagi fame Monika while Sampath, Gowtham and others have crucial roles to present.
One of the main highlights of the film would be a song that is canned within single shot. This song would be featured for say around 3 minutes.
