Karthik Subbaraj, who has carved a niche for himself as a film-maker of substance with films such as Pizza and Jigarthanda under his belt, is to direct his third film in Iraivi which brings together the trio of Vijay Sethupathi, actor-director S.J. Surya and Bobby Simha.
Thirukkumaran Entertainment, which produced Pizza, is also making Iraivi whose script is said to be about the incidents occurring in the lives of four close friends. Santosh Narayanan has been signed up as the film’s music director. One more frontline actor is to be added to the cast of the film.
Vijay Sethupathi, who experimented a bit ‘too much’ in 2014, is of the view that he learnt through his experiences and is now optimistic as to what would be in store for him in 2015.
He conceded that he believed in the film-making abilities of some directors but was betrayed by the ultimate product. “Scripts narrated to me were very different from the films’ final version,” he says.
“I would henceforth ensure that the directors who narrate scripts to me don’t deviate from the scripts narrated to me,” says Vijay Sethupathi. He is now starring opposite Nayantara Nayantara in Naanum Rowdythaan which is produced by Dhanush. He hopes that Karthik, who gave him a huge break with Pizza, would once again help him recover some lost ground.
