Composer Ilaiyaraaja has opined that his upcoming film Tharai Thappattai would be a very tough film for Bala as a film-maker. “I’m sure it would pose severe challenges to Bala,” remarked Ilaiyaraaja when he visited the sets of the shoot of the film which is going on at Thanjavur.
Not often Ilaiyaraaja allots time to visit the sets of the film for which he scores music. The unassuming Guinness World record-holder for scoring music for maximum number of films (Tharai Thappattai would be his 1000th film as a composer) was in Karandhai in Thanjavur apparently at the behest of Bala and Sasikumar, who invited the Maestro to visit them on the sets.
Sasikumar and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar play the lead roles in the film which is being shot at Karandhai for the past few days. Ilaiyaraaja was accorded a ceremonial and grand welcome when he arrived at the sets.
“I’m here to honour Bala’s request. I’m sure this film would be the toughest of all the films Bala has made as on date; it is a tough challenge and he appears to be equal to the task,” said Ilaiyaraaja while appreciating Bala’s film-making qualities.
Sasikumar said that it was an unforgettable experience for him to be starring as hero in Bala’s film after working as an assistant director under him during the making of Sethu years ago. He also hinted that he would be back to directing films by the year-end.
On her part, Varalaxmi expressed her happiness at having been chosen to play the heroine. “I’m a trained in Western dance forms but am happy to play a Karagattam artiste,” she said.
