Music director GV Prakash Kumar turns hero with the release of his debut film Darling, a film of thriller genre, which releases in theatres all over Tamil Nadu today.
Actually, Pencil was to be G.V. Prakash Kumar’s debut film as hero but its making has been held up for many reasons and in the meantime, Prakash Kumar signed up and completed the shoot of Darling, Tamil remake of the 2013 Telugu hit film Prema Katha Chitram.
Speaking about his foray into the world of acting, G.V. Prakash Kumar said: “Actually, producer-director A.R. Murugadoss was to launch me as a hero but for some reasons, the film had been abandoned.
I then signed up to star in Pencil which hit a bottleneck. In the intervening three months, I grew a beard. Gnanavel Raja, who saw my bearded look, signed me up to play the lead role in a ghost-story.
“Sam Anton has directed Darling and I have also scored the film’s music besides playing the lead role. Nikki Galrani and Srushti Dange are playing the twin heroines in the film which releases on Pongal.
I’m happy to my many friends in the industry and to my Uncle A.R. Rahman who congratulated me after watching the film’s trailer released some time back.
“I’m often asked whether I would continue to score music for films now that I have started taking up acting assignments. I’m allotting exclusive time for both acting and composing music. I’m presently scoring the music of more than 10 films,” said Prakash Kumar.
On another note, he conceded that his playback singer wife Saindhavi’s condition that he shouldn’t get ‘close’ (read: smooch) to his heroines was still in force!
