Leading luminaries of Bollywood including some living legends are to come together on a single platform to felicitate Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, referred to also as ‘Isaignani’ by his millions of fans, for honouring him on his impeccable feat of composing music for 1000 films in various Indian languages.
Director Bala’s upcoming directorial venture titled Tharai Thappattai starring Sasikumar and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar in the lead would be Ilaiyaraaja’s 1000th film as a music director, a feat not achieved by anyone so far.
Amitabh Bachchan and Lata Mangeshkar would be among the Bollywood celebrities who would be taking part in the function to be held in Mumbai on 20th January.
Ilaiyaraaja, who started his musical sojourn with Annakili in 1976, has carried on his illustrious career for close to four decades, scoring music for films made in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi and English.
The Maestro, who has come in for praise from his Bollywood contemporaries and former greats as the greatest music director ever to have been born in the country, is busy even today scoring music for more than 20 films in various languages.
Balki, who has worked with Ilaiyaraaja in films such as Cheeni Kam and Paa and in his upcoming venture Shamitabh, is organizing the function in Mjumbai.
“Amitabh, Lata Mangeshkar, P. Suseela and S. Janaki would be among the many celebrities who would attend the event,” Balki says adding that popular heroes and heroines from various language industries who have worked in films having Ilaiyaraaja’s music would also be attending the function.
