Villain-turned-hero-turned-comedian-turned-character actor Mansoor Ali Khan has expressed his anguish about the fact that veteran ‘Aachi’ Manorama has been left unattended as she has nobody to help her in her old age.
Manorama, who has starred in 1000 films, is one of the very few surviving artistes from the black-and-white era of the fifties and sixties and has starred in many films which had the legendary MGR and Sivaji Ganesan in lead roles. She also acted in memorable films with Kamal Haasan and superstar Rajinikanth and was last spotted in Suriya’s Singam II which released last year.
Manorama hasn’t been keeping good health for the past few years. She fell in the bathroom, was treated in the knee and later developed kidney problems for which she was admitted to a Hospital.
Mansoor says she is unwell now but her family members haven’t taken her to hospital for treatment. “I went to Manorama’s residence to invite her to my daughter’s wedding and was baffled at her state of health.
“She is suffering from kidney disorder and is not taken for regular dialysis by her family members. If kidney transplant is done, she would live for many more years. It shocked me to know that she wasn’t being taken care of properly by her family. Despite her stature and her economic status, she is made to suffer which is very pathetic. I appeal to Kollywood to take action to save ‘Aachi’ at the earliest,” Mansoor said.
