Superstar Rajinikanth spoke at length at the grand audio-launch of his upcoming Lingaa held at the Sathyam Cinemas complex in the city. The ‘man of the masses’ was spotted dressed in an immaculate suit at the function, attended among others by director K.S. Ravikumar, producer ‘Rockline’ Venkatesh, heroines Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka, Jagapati Babu, directors Shankar, Ameer and Cheran.
“When I fell ill in 2011, I yearned to start acting in films again; in fact, there were days when I wondered whether I would be back to my usual self. After a gap of 2½ years, I committed to star in Kochadaiiyaan, the country’s first 3-D animation film. It was a huge burden on Soundarya’s shoulders and thanks to Eros and Murali Manohar’s help, she completed it. She might have lost some money but gained invaluable experience.
“Those who watched Kochadaiiyaan expressed their disappointment to me at not getting to watch me ‘live’ in the film. I then decided to star in a ‘live’ film and at that time, K.S. Ravikumar approached me with a script conceived by his assistant Pon Kumaran. I heard the script and liked it immediately. I asked Ravikumar to start the shoot in May and complete it within six months. He postponed his project with Sudeep and started work on Lingaa.
“Venkatesh has been of great help to me in the past; in order to repay him, I asked him if he would produce the film. Rahman, Vairamuthu, Rathnavelu and Sabu Cyril were chosen by the producer and director and I didn’t intervene in their decision. Ravikumar took good care of me during the shoot and had appointed many persons to be on hand to help me,” Rajini said and concluded saying that work was going on to release the film on his birthday on 12th December.
