Kamal Haasan is often credited to have ‘sparked’ superstar Rajinikanth’s super-stardom by asking him to go it alone in the early eighties at a time when both of them were acting together in many films and delivering super-duper hits. After Rajini started starring as the solo hero, as they say, the rest was ‘history’ as Rajini became the most successful superstar of Indian films.
Rajini and Kamal still manage to retain their close association despite their various commitments. Rajini never fails to address as his ‘Kalaiyulaga Anna’ (elder brother in terms of career in films) in functions where Kamal is present on the dais. Kamal and Rajini, however, remain the same when it comes to entering politics: both are absolutely non-committal.
BJP, the ruling party at the Centre is hell-bent in roping Rajini to either lead the party in the State in the run-up to the Assembly polls due in 2016 or get him to support the party.
Observers point out that the BJP appeared to be trying to rope in Kamal Haasan too as he has been named as Prime Minister’s chosen nominees to take the lead in the ‘Clean India’ campaign.
Kamal recently cleaned up the Madambakkam lake in the presence of Tamilisai Soundararajan, State BJP president. He was recently asked whether he would enter politics for which he evaded a direct answer.
He, however, answered directly when asked about his close friend Rajini’s possibly entry into politics by saying that the question (of Rajini’s political entry) would be best answered by Rajini himself and not others!
