Superstar Rajinikanth has retained his position as the ‘highest paid’ actor in Asia. Rajini, who was recently chosen as the ‘Film personality of the year’ by the Centre and would be presented the award during the ongoing Goa International Film Festival of India, has reportedly been paid Rs.60 crores to star in his upcoming film Lingaa.
With this pay-packet, Rajini becomes not only the highest paid actor in the country but in Asia as well. As already reported, Lingaa has been produced by ‘Rockline’ Venkatesh at a huge cost of more than Rs.100 crores The film’s distribution and release rights have been sold for an unprecedented Rs.165 crores to Eros Entertainment. Moreover, the satellite broadcasting rights of the film is to be bagged for a whopping cost.
Rajini’s elder brother Sathyanarayana would be getting a share of the film’s profit as he has been included as a joint producer with Venkatesh. Rajini’s fee to star in the film was reportedly paid through a single cheque after deducting the mandatory income tax from the amount.
Rajini, the record-breaker in many respects, remains the highest-paid Indian actor ever since the release of his Chandramukhi in 2005. He also becomes the highest paid Asian actor as Jackie Chan, Hollywood’s Asian superstar, acts mostly in his own production and his fee per film can’t be taken into account.
