National award-winning director S.P. Jananathan, who is only making his fourth film as director in more than a decade, informs that he has already entered the final stage of shoot of his upcoming film Purampokku which has three heroes in Vijay Sethupathi, Arya and Shaam and a solo heroine in Karthika Nair (remember the Ko girl?).
Besides penning the story, screenplay and dialogues and directing the film, Jananathan is also producing the film under his Binary Pictures and in association with Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV Motion Pictures. Billed as a ‘political action thriller’, Porampokku has Arya in the role of a social activist, Vijay Sethupati as a porter and Shaam as a cop. Karthika is said to have performed some action sequences in the film.
“Prison plays a significant role in my film; I have even named the characters of the lead artistes after the names of our historical characters. The shoot has already been held extensively in places such as Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. We are now into the final stages of the shoot of the film and are shooting at a huge prison set erected at the Binny Mill off Chennai Airport,” informs Jananathan.
Varshan scores the film’s music while V.T. Vijayan and Ekambaram are the editor and cinematographer of the film. The audio of the film is likely to be launched in the third or fourth week of November while the film is scheduled to release in theatres in January next year during Pongal.
