It is reported that Eros International has bagged the release and distribution rights of superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited upcoming film Lingaa for a record price of Rs.165 crore.
Reports further state that Lingaa is the first Indian film whose release rights have been sold for such a huge price. Rajini plays dual roles in the film whose script is set either side of Independence. The teaser of the film, released a few days back, has become a rage with netizens who have been downloading/sharing it at will, creating a record.
Usually, big-budget films are released in theatres by the firms producing those movies. Rajini’s colossal hit Enthiran: The Robot, was produced and distributed by Sun Pictures whereas the film’s release in countries abroad was handled by various agencies. ‘Rockline’ Venkatesh is the producer of Lingaa which has Rajini pairing up opposite Anushka and Bollywood’s Sonakshi Sinha. Oscar-award winner A.R. Rahman is the film’s composer.
Eros plans to release Lingaa, whose release rights have been bagged by it for a record price, in an unprecedented number of cinema halls in India and abroad. The release rights of the film abroad have been bagged by Aingaran Films, a business partner of Eros.
