Venkat Prabhu, the director of actor Suriya’s upcoming film Masss, has defended the promotional posters of the film which depicted Suriya in a never-seen-before pose, spewing vengeance. Soon after the poster was out, reports surfaced in the print media stating that the poster had been copied from the Hollywood film The Bourne Ultimatum.
Explaining about it, Venkat Prabhu has said that Suriya’s poster was vastly different from the posters of the Hollywood film which released 12 years back in 2007. After the moderately successful Anjaan, Suriya plays the lead role in Masss wherein he gets to romance Nayantara and Amy Jackson. Venkat and Suriya’s favourite Yuvan Shankar Raja is the film’s music director while R.D. Rajasekhar is the cinematographer.
Suriya’s uncle Gnanavel Raja is producing the film under his banner ‘Studio Green’. The ‘first look’ of the film was released on Deepavali via a poster depicting Suriya in an almost unrecognizable look. Replying to reports of plagiarism, Venkat Prabhu said “We released the first look of Masss on Deepavali which was highly appreciated by many on social networking sites.
“However, a section of the press has been saying that it has been copied from an English film. The posters of the film referred to by the reports were made through ‘mug-shot’ technology which was the trend followed by many Hollywood films which released later. I would like to appeal to all those to first be informed about the trend before accusing us,” he concluded.
