Upcoming film Ponge Ezhu Manohara, which features Irfan (of Pattalam and Sundaattam fame) in the lead role, reportedly has sequences based on the famed ‘Goundamani-Sathyaraj’ style of comedy.
Ramesh Rangasamy, who worked for many years as an assistant director under S.A. Chandrasekhar, debuts as director with Ponge Ezhu Manohara which has comedian Singampuli essaying a prominent role. The romantic comedy has sequences featuring Singampuli and Irfan which might remind viewers about the many famous sequences involving Goundamani and Sathyaraj made in the nineties.
The crew believes that sequences featuring Irfan and Singampuli would turn out to be as popular and as enterprising as sequences in films which featured Goundamani and Sathyaraj and which released in the nineties.
It won’t be an under-statement to say that Goundamani’s star-power as the leading comedian helped Sathyaraj cement his place as a hero in Kollywood in those days.
The script of Ponge Ezhu Manohara has been set in the backdrop of the fifties. The shoot has been held in places such as Chennai, Kodaikkanal and Sathiyamangalam. The film is likely to release by the year-end.
