Accepting a plea filed with it by superstar Rajinikanth against the release of an upcoming Hindi film titled Main Hoon Rajinikanth, the High Court of Madras granted an interim stay restricting Varsha Productions (producers of the film) from releasing the film in theatres till September 25.
Rajini had stated in his petition that he never endorsed any film(s) or product(s) so as not to mislead his millions of fans. Stating that he enjoyed a good reputation in the film industry due to his contribution, Rajini had pointed out that the makers of the above film had ‘misused’ his super-hero images in various movies mainly to further the box-office prospect of Main Hoon Rajinikanth.
“The film has sequences with immoral content and it also violated the provisions of the copyright Act as the makers didn’t seek my consent in using my name/images and style of delivering dialogues,” Rajini had stated in his petition and sought a ban on the film’s release. Justice S. Tamilvanan, who took up the petition, observed that intellectual property right was a recognized right and granted interim stay for the film’s release till September 25.
Directed by Faisal Saif and produced by Smt. Saroj, Main Hoon Rajinikanth stars Adithya Menon and Kavita Radhyshyam in lead roles and has music by Bappi Lahiri and pop singer Shibani Kashyap.
