Director-producer-actor S.A. Chandrasekhar has said that Vijay’s caste certificate doesn’t show the name of the religion he belongs to. “I only put ‘Indian’ in the column under ‘religion’ and it stays till now,” said Chandrasekhar while speaking at an Iftar Party.
Chandrasekhar was a special invitee at an Iftar party hosted yesterday at the Tavheet Mosque at Vadakarai near Periyakulam in Theni District. Speaking on the occasion after breaking the ‘fast’ by sipping the juice offered to him, he said “I have not come to here as a film-maker but as one among you. Praying five times a day is the feature I like most in Islam.
“Some Muslim friends of mind helped me by giving me a loan of Rs.1 lakh in 1978 when I attempted to make my debut film in Tami. That sum is equal to more than Rs.10 crore now. When I got Vijay admitted to LKG, I put ‘Indian’ under the column ‘religion’ and it remains the same till now.
“I’m proud of the fact that Vijay Fans’ Clubs in six out of the 33 Districts in the States are headed by Muslims,” he concluded.
Despite his claim about Vijay’s religion, it may noted that of late, Vijay has started using the letter-head in which his name is referred to as Joseph Vijay. This is in sharp contrast to the letter-head he had been using for a long time which had his name printed only as ‘Vijay’.
