Rajini Nataraj, wife of actor Vishnu Vishal, is the latest female director in Kollywood.
Of late, there have been many women directors in Kollywood: Saratha Ramanathan, J.S. Nandhini, Aishwarya Dhanush, Soundarya, Lakshmi Ramakrishnan and Kruthiga Udhayanidhi. Rajini becomes the latest entrant in this list.
Vishnu Vishal, who is soaking in the box-office success of his latest film Mundasupatti, says that his wife Rajini’s long-standing ambition and passion has been to become a film-maker in Kollywood.
Taking a cue from Aishwarya Dhanush, Rajini has also decided to cast her husband and actor Vishnu as the hero of her debut directorial venture.
Rajini has worked as assistant director under Kruthiga in Vanakkam Chennai and under Seenu Ramasamy during the making of Neerparavai and the upcoming Idam Porul Eval. She is said to have prepared a script long time back which she says is ‘tailor-made’ for her husband Vishnu.
“Of course, I play the hero in my wife’s debut film as a director. She already has two scripts ready out of which one would be made into a film with me essaying the male lead,” says Vishnu. Rajini is also a talented costume designer who designed Priya Anand’s costumes in Vanakkam Chennai.
