Seems 2014 is the year for underdogs to emerge massive winners. Vijay Milton’s directorial venture ‘Goli Soda’ with adolescent actors in the lead roles proved to be one of the most profitable and critically acclaimed ventures of this year.
That was followed by commercial and critical success of ‘Thegidi’ an investigative thriller from debutante director Ramesh With Ashok Selvan, a two film old actor playing the lead hero role.
Now in the middle of the fifth month of the year, a film without any star values has emerged as winner. Debutante Director Deekay’s ‘Yaamirukka Bayamey’ with Kreshna, Rupa Manjari, Oviya and Karunakaran playing the lead characters were produced and distributed by RS Infotainment last week. In fact the film which was supposed to release on the later stages of the month of May, was released on May 9, to capitalise the void created by the postponement of Superstar Rajnikanth’s ‘Kochadaiiyaan’.
Surprisingly, the humorous horror flick that released without any big pre release buzz or high profile publicity has garnered good collections and positive reviews in the first week of its release.
As per industry sources the film has managed to collect more than Rs.1.5 crores in Chennai alone and a total of five crores in Tamil Nadu box office in the first week. If the same trend continues in the second week, the film will easily join the elite list of ‘surprise winners’ of 2014 and RS Infotainment will have all reasons to keep smiling.
