As we have reported earlier, ‘Vanganna Vanakkanganna,’ a popular hit song from ‘Thalaiva’ composed by G.V.Prakash and sung by actor Vijay who did the lead role in the film, has received the Most Popular Tamil Song award in Gaana Awards.
‘Gaana Awards’ is an initiative by Times Internet. The awards are determined based on actual play-outs and user consumption across digital platforms on Gaana.com which is India’s No.1 music broadcasting service with 9 million active monthly users and 6 million apps downloaded in about a year’s time.
Young composer G.V.Prakash who is highly elated recalled that the song remained as number one for 14 weeks in a countdown of top 20 songs of a popular FM station. Earlier ‘Yathe Yathe’ from ‘Aadukalam’ composed by the same composer had remained at the top for 12 weeks.
Prakash also revealed another interesting detail about the peppy number from ‘Thalaiva’. When he conveyed his decision to make actor Vijay sing the song, it was director A.L.Vijay who suggested that the song start with ‘Vanganna Vanakkanganna.’ The lyricist Na.Muthukumar retained them as the first two words and wrote the song.
Prakash also recalled that when he conveyed that the song has received the award. ‘Ilayathalabathi’ Vijay had said, “It is a super song and it deserves an award”.
