The re release of MGR’s super hit film ‘Nadodi Mannan’ which was also his debut directorial venture can be cited as the trendsetter for re-releasing digitally restored version of old films.
The stupendous success of the restored version of Nadodi Mannan lead to the re -release of a few other MGR films the recent one being Aayirathil Oruvan which is still running in screens across Tamilnadu.
MGR’s contemporary star Sivaji Ganesan’s Karnan was digitized and released in 2012. It ran for 100 days in many screens including those in multiplex. Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan starrers Ninaithaley Inikkum and 16 Vayathiniley were also digitally restored and released a few months ago.
Now its Ajith’s turn to join the list. The star’s 25th film Amarkalam directed by Saran, that released in 1999 will be re-released this year on May 1, which marks the birthday of ‘Thala’. Amarkalam was extra special for Ajith since he proposed to his co-star Shalini on the sets of this film and they became one of the most celebrated star couples.
