Vijay Sethupathi’s Pannaiyarum Padminiyum hits the screens all over the State today. On the eve of the film’s release, Vijay Sethupathi went back in time to publicize the film by riding a tricycle-rickshaw which had a huge hoarding of the film so as.
The past two years had been a roller-coaster ride for Vijay Sethupathi who has brought back the confidence in film-makers’ minds that films made with small and medium budget are also capable of setting the box-office on fire.
Even Vijay’s recent release Rummy, which wasn’t made with a huge budget, managed to bring in pleasing returns at the box-office.
Iyshwarya Rajesh, who played the lead role opposite Vijay in Rummy, is the heroine again in Pannaiyarum Padminiyum. In order to publicize the film, Vijay rode on a cycle-rickshaw which had a huge poster of the film, so as to publicize it. Publicizing a film by this manner was a method which was followed in the sixties and seventies when there were no internet and other communication modes.
Even bullock-carts had been used in the past to publicize a film by taking the cart along the streets of nook and corners of many villages. At times, announcement through mike would also be made about the date of release of films.
The crew of Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, which has made the film in a ‘different’ manner, apparently thought that the publicity campaign for the film should also be very ‘different’.
Vijay agreed to the idea and hence the cycle-rickshaw campaign even in the internet era!
