Remember, actress Suja aka Suja Varunee, the ‘item girl’ in Arjun’s Vathiyar in 2006 in the hit song Nee munnale pona naan pinnale vaaren? The actress, who made her in debut in Tamil films with Plus Two(2002), when she was barely 14, is now feeling more matured mentally and says she can choose or reject offes which come her way depending on the script.
Busy in Tamil and Telugu films, Suja has an interesting line-up of films in Tamil including Vaa Deal, Appuchi Gramam, Amali Thumali, Kadhal Theevu and Pencil. Speaking to newsmen recently, Suja said “I feel I have changed a lot in recent years; now I have learnt through my experiences and errors that I committed in the past. I am determined to be selective in my choice of movies.
“Thankfully, today’s trend in film-making is very nice with many talented newcomers arriving at regular intervals. They don’t think much in breaking the stereotypical formula-based films. Their efforts are also patronized by the support from movie-goers. Days are gone when heroines’ roles were limited to merely exposing their navels and mid-riffs; we are getting so many heroine-oriented films nowadays which augurs well for the industry.
“It’s a welcome change and a healthy trend indeed. I feel instead of doing a postmortem on past films and researching as to what went wrong, it would be better for all of us to concentrate on what we can do at present in a positive manner. One should try to learn from his/her past experiences and ensure not to repeat the mistakes of the past,” concluded Suja on a philosophical note.
