Veteran Actor Sivaji Ganesan’s statue was errected in Chennai Kamarajar Salai, the road along Marina beach in 2006. It was erected while his good friend Mr.Karunanidhi was the Chief Minister. Now the statue of the great actor is in the news for wrong reasons.
Back in 2006 a petition had been filed in the Madras High Court seeking its intervention to relocate the statue since its proposed placement in Kamarajar Salai would affect the vision of the motorists taking right to reach Radhakrishnan Salai. However the case was put at the backburner and the then Government went ahead with unveiling the statue.
Now the case has acquired a new leash of life with the High Court requesting the city’s Traffic department to check whether there was any obstruction of vision as claimed by the petitioner.
Its not clear whether the Traffic department has started working on the Court’s request. But the Tamil Nadu Director’s union are quick to react to the issue that might possibly affect the Statue of the Chevalier award winning actor.
They have issued a statement today which is addressed to the Police department stating the achievements and contributions of the legendary actor to Tamil Cinema as well as Tamil people’s lives and requested them not to relocate the statue at any cost.
