Reports emanating from sources close to the Unit of Ajith’s upcoming film Arrambam voiced concern some time back that they were finding ‘stumbling blocks’ in their efforts to sell the film for its theatrical release (on 31st October, a couple of days prior to Deepavali) in all regions in the State.
Queries with some of the distributors revealed that there was indeed pressure on them from certain quarters not to take up the film’s distribution and release. Word was being around that producer A.M. Rathnam had almost become bankrupt and that he might face difficulties in getting the film released in all zones in time. This made Ajith’s fans a worried lot but it now appears that the issue has since been resolved.
Despite the fact that Ajith’s latest release Billa II didn’t scorch the screens when it released during the middle of last year, there has been craze among Ajith’s fans and movie-goers who await the release of Arrambam with great interest and curiosity.
Distributors are still remembering the colossal success of Ajith’s Mankatha (2011) and are hoping that Arrambam would recreate the same magic at the box-office.
Rathnam had reportedly sold off the film to all distribution areas except the all-important NSC area which he wanted to sell for Rs.14 crores. Though many leading distributors backed out after hearing the price, a distributor who is a close friend of distributor-producer Udhayanidhi has reportedly come forward to use his influence in getting the film sold in this area.
