Critics were surprised to say the least when young and upcoming actress Nazriya Nazim, heroine of films such as Raja Rani and Naiyaandi, made a fuss of the Midriff exposure out of a trailer.
Nazriya said director Sarkunam had exposed her ‘midriff and navel’ in an obscene manner in the film in a sequence and even accused him of using a ‘body double’ (for this?) and attempting to show that it was she who appears in the sequence.
Sarkunam hit back and said that Nazriya was welcome to watch the film before its theatrical release (it released last Friday) so as to ensure that nothing ‘harmful’ has been done by him.
“When I called for the shoot of ‘patch-up’ work, she said she was too busy to move out of Kerala and asked me to make use of a body-double. I didn’t do that and strangely enough, she is accusing me for the same,” he said.
Nazriya did a volte-face later and said that the said sequence was ‘perfectly okay’ for her and said she was withdrawing all her remarks and complaints filed with the police and Nadigar Sangam against Sarkunam.
Nazriya’s act of calling a press-meet to blow up the issue and her subsequent filing of complaints with the police and the Sangam irritated many directors beyond the limit.
Touted as one of the most promising finds in recent times, Nazriya was signed up by many producers. However, all of them are now having second thoughts about roping her in as they are apprehensive that she would raise a hue and cry over even sequence which required her to expose to a little extent.
Jiiva, who was to pair up opposite her in Nee Nalla Varuvada, is said to have asked the director to look for ‘another’ heroine.
