As Vanakkam Chennai featuring the likes of Mirchi Shiva, Priya Anand and Santhanam was geared up for a big release across the state giving Dhanush and his Naiyaandi team a run for the money, things took a turn for the unfortunates as the producer was notified in the last minute that his movie has not been yet given the much needed tax exemption he was eagerly looking forward to.
This being a directorial by producer Udhayanidhi Stalin’s wife – Kiruthiga Udayanidhi, it was also a matter of personal importance for the him. Notably, this is not the first time that Udhayanidhi’s movie has come into the non tax exemption category despite getting a clean U certificate.
Previously, his other projects – namely Oru Kal Oru Kannadi and Neer Paravai also faced similar verdicts.
Upset about the progress of events Udayanidhi Stalin had wrote on his micro blog yesterday, ”Entertainment tax exemption rejected as expected. 1 govt. official who signed in favour of #vc transferred immediately.
I feel v sad for the govt. Official who got transferred jus because he gave approval for the tax exemption for Vanakkam Chennai!I don’t know what the courts verdict will be tomorrow..but i will not go down without challenging the governments order! Celebrating 100yrs of tamil cinema! #vanakkamchennai redgiant wil go 2 court for entertainment tax exemption! Hope for the best!”
Eventually, the movie had to release in across 210 screens without the tax exemption.
