She might have just turned 50 but the former Bollywood ‘queen-bee’ Sridevi still looks dazzling enough to give a run for their money to many of today’s leading heroines in Mumbai. Sridevi, who made a successful comeback in films with late last year’s English Vinglish, is the mother of two teenaged daughters but still insists that she is ‘good enough’ to play lead roles in films.
“I don’t want to do character roles; I only want to play lead roles in films,” Sridevi has said recently. After taking a hiatus of more than a decade from films, Sridevi returned to celluloid late last year. Critics and her fans loved the way she had portrayed with aplomb her character in the film which turned out to be a commercial success as well.
Significantly enough, the film was recently released in Japan after getting dubbed in Japanese. Sridevi has been taking part in many fashion shows and filmy functions of late and appears in ever-so-attractive costumes, making everyone wonder as to how she lost her ‘years’. Though she has been getting many offers, most of them are sister’s role or sister-in-law’s role.
“I have turned down all such roles which came my way; though I’m fifty, I know I look good enough to play lead roles and won’t take up character roles. My fan base is intact and I shall continue to play only lead roles in films,” asserts Sridevi.
