Actress-turned-dance choreographer Gayathri, who has stopped acting in films actively in 2003, is all set for a grand comeback. Gayathri is now playing Gautham Karthik’s sister in Aishwarya’s second directorial venture titled Vai Raja Vai which has Priya Anand playing Gautham’s heroine.
Gayathri, daughter of noted dancer Raghuram, debuted as an actress in Tamil films opposite Prabhu Deva in Charlie Chaplin (2002), which also had Prabhu and Abhirami in lead roles. She then starred in films such as Style, Parasuram, Whistle and Vikadan. Waiting for a major breakthrough in films and not getting, she moved to U.S. and married Deepak Chandrasekar in 2005 .
The marriage turned sour soon and Gayathri decided to shift lock, stock and barrel to India and was back in Kollywood in 2008, this time not as an actress but as a dance choreographer and choreographed songs in successful films such as Kanthaswamy, Aadhavan, Vaanam, etc. In Vaanam and Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi, she also played brief roles.
After playing the jury in dance reality shows on television, Gayathri remarked in a recent interview that it was ‘difficult’ for heroines to get lead roles after marriage. “However, I’m ready to play sister and sister-in-law’s roles to leading heroes; I’m also game for playing negative roles,” she had said. She now plays Gautham’s sister in Aishwarya’s Vai Raja Vai directed by AGS Entertainment.
It is notable that Vai Raja Vai has already acquired the ‘looks’ of a big film with the inclusion of Vivek, director SM Vasanth, Sri Ranjani and Gayathri Raghuram.
