Balu Mahendra, the mercurial filmmaker, is back in action after an 8-year long hiatus from Tamil films. Balu Mahendra last made Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam which starred Dhanush and Priyamani in lead roles. Despite good reviews from critics, the film didn’t do well at the box-office. Balu Mahendra is now back with Thalaimuraigal which has music by Balu’s favourite Ilaiyaraaja.
Balu met Ilaiyaraaja at his residence yesterday to personally congratulate him for scoring some mesmerizing numbers in Thalaimuraigal which has Sasikumar playing the hero. Sasikumar has also produced the film and was present along with Balu when he visited the Maestro’s place. Thalaimuraigal has got an ‘U’ certificate from the Censors. Besides directing the film, Balu has also worked as the cinematographer and editor of the film.
This is the first time that a film starring Sasikumar in the lead would have music by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja. However, Sasikumar, a self-proclaimed fan of Ilaiyaraaja’s music, had used his old classic songs liberally in his films in the past. Who would forget the full song of Maestro that he made good use of in the super-hit Subramaniapuram?
Ilaiyaraaja has completed the re-recording of the film which reportedly stumpted Balu and Sasimumar who visited the musical genius in person to convey their appreciation.
